Based on the comments from people in this sub who have been successful at purchasing a console, including my own experience, I think it is safe to say this has been debunked. There has been some debate about whether or not the line is randomized when the store opens. If you get there after the store is opened you are going to go to the back of the queue. In which case the key is being in the queue before the store opens (that first 30 minute window) and hope you get placed at the front of the line. Good luck to everyone and feel free to add or correct anything in the comments that I missed.ĮDIT: Based on some feedback it seems that the queue may be randomized at the start afterall. If you try to do it on a different day, you will need to use a different PS account, mailing address, and credit card. If you are trying to buy a second one as a present for someone you will not be able to do it in one transaction. I have not tried, but my understanding is that you are limited to one console per account, address, and credit card. I am not sure what the costs are if you are not a member. Shipping options are 3-4 days or 1-2 days and both are free if you are a PS Plus member. Also, update your PS account by saving a credit card in your PS wallet so you don't have to enter everything when you get into the store. Test this ahead of time to make sure it works. Prepare ahead of time by making sure you have the password saved on your device so you can autofill it and get in as quick as possible. If you are lucky enough to get into the store you will need to log in with your PS ID. I wouldn't give up all hope if you see an hour wait, you have already invested the time so stick around until is says out of stock, but most likely it is not your day. Those at the back of the line will continue to see a wait time of more than an hour. This is the point when those at the front of the line will see the wait time drop below an hour. Once Sony is ready, the third party begins to slowly let people into the store. The line is not randomized, if you were in early enough to see an original wait time of less than one hour, you should have a good chance of getting a console that day. There are just too many people still trying to buy them right now. If you are relying on a twitter notification you are probably going to miss out as the line fills up really quickly. Once the line is long enough, all participants will see a wait time of more than an hour. If you get in early enough you will se a wait time of under an hour. There were times that refreshing the store page did not bring up the queue for me, but this link did.įor the first 30 minutes or so of the queue being open people are just being lined up for when the store officially opens. Instead of refreshing the PS5 store page, you may want to refresh by using the following link: While it may seem counter-productive, the more you refresh the more likely you are to get captchas, so refresh frequently but not incessantly. To maximize your chances of not being labeled a possible bot, you should already be logged into your PS store account, be on a device you use regularly, and logged into your google account if you have one. When I got my PS5 I did not have to input a captcha. When the store opens, most users will have to pass one or more captchas. My understanding is that the queue is run by a third party who opens the line when they are told by Sony that they have stock available. Most have been between 5:00pm EST and 6:00pm EST, but you should start checking no later than 2:30pm EST to be safest. All drops that I have seen thus far have occurred between 3:00pm EST and 6:00pm EST. The drops are not announced ahead of time and occur at random times, although those times tend to be within a relatively predictable window. I have not seen a weekend drop yet, but would would not be surprised if they start happening as we get closer to Christmas and more stock becomes available, so probably worth checking every day just in case. Over the last two weeks there has been one drop per day, almost every weekday. This is what I have learned from my experience up to this point. I was able to secure a PS5 from the PS Direct Store for myself last week and I have since been keeping an eye on it for a friend trying to get one. This post was inspired by a comment I saw somewhere in this sub, I would credit if I could find it again.
